The Cornish Oyster Fisherman
Jonathan works two oyster dredges behind his beautiful gaff-rigged boat the Katherina. She is more than 100 years old as are many in the fleet of Falmouth oyster boat that still work the sea every winter.
A rather odd 1868 bylaw dictates that Falmouth oystermen are not allowed to dredge for oysters with an engine. So they have to sail. It is the last such fleet in the world, and the only commercial fishery to remain sailing in Europe.
