On a Snowy Evening in Central Park - No. 1

A bit of winter magic in Manhattan...

Although perhaps I should say "wintry," as technically it was still autumn,
when New York City saw its first snowfall of the season on December 9.

Fortunately, for this photographer, it was the magical kind of "photogenic snow" - the wet
kind that clings to tree limbs and coats streets, and sidewalks in an inviting white blanket.

A wonderful winter image. I like the composition. After reading your post below, this is another reason I would like to upgrade to the 5DMkIV.

  Thanks, Archie! Appreciate your comment. As to the 5DMkIV, I don't think you'll be disappointed - Lots of fine attributes beyond the high ISO performance!

What a beautiful image! A perfect composition which conveys a christmassy atmosphere. Impressive ISO, too.

  Thank you, Lucy! The high ISO performance was what finally got me to step into the full-frame D-SLR world with the 5DMkIV. I did so back in June, mainly to ensure good results during my "Blaue Stunde" open helicopter shooting over NYC - added margin of safety with the 70-200 f/2.8-II image stabilized L-series lens I'd be using. But, on this night, as I wasn't too sure about how slippery it might be underfoot in the park, I elected not to carry the 70-200 and instead use a slower (and non-IS!) lens. That made me all the more appreciative of the Canon's high ISO performance in allowing the shutter speeds I needed, especially for the falling snow!
